My Announcement on the 2022 Election Cycle

My Announcement on the 2022 Election Cycle

Over the last several months, I have been honored that many people inside and outside of Maryland urged me to run for governor. While I appreciate the confidence placed in me and the overwhelming support of so many who believe I can make positive changes as governor, you may have heard that I have chosen to continue building on our terrific momentum here, at home, in Prince George’s County. I made a promise to the people of Prince George’s County and I will keep it.

I am proud to have over 900,000 Prince Georgians who I call my neighbors, my friends, and my family. Three times I asked you to trust me with your hopes, fears, and aspirations as a community. You humbled me with that trust through your votes each time. In return, I pledge to honor my oath to you and to do the job I asked for: Prince George’s County Executive.

As a native and lifelong Prince Georgian, it has been my greatest honor to have served the citizens and residents of this County for eight years as State’s Attorney and now more than two years as their County Executive. When I took my oath to diligently and faithfully represent the interests of the people of this County, I could not have imagined the challenges we would face, together, more than a year later.

Scripture tells us, to everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven, and while I appreciate the confidence placed in me by so many who believe I can make meaningful change at the state level, I cannot in good faith redirect my focus to the Governor’s mansion when my community is suffering through this crisis, nor do I want to.

This is the season for me, as a mother, to ensure I am present for my daughter during her last two years of high school; I was first elected her second week in kindergarten. My Alexandra has been by my side my entire career in public office, and I want to be by hers at a time where she’s approaching college visits, studying for the SATs, and attending junior and senior prom.

I love Prince George County. I love the people of Prince George’s County. And while I will not run for Governor in 2022, I will be seeking re-election as County Executive for Prince George’s County.

Yours in service,

Angela Alsobrooks
